MAKING THE BED

1. Why do we need to know how to make an unoccupied and occupied bed?

It is important to know how to make an occupied and unoccupied bed because if I were a home nurse, I should learn how to apply various home techniques such as these to make the patient feel comfortable and speed up the recovery.

2. How does making a bed help in the fast recovery of our patient?

Because if you do it in a proper way, the patient will feel comfortable when he's/she's in bed and to have him/her a better clean surrounding to avoid bacteria that might make the patient feel worse.

3. As a good home nurse, how will you be able to render your services to your patient through bed making?

I will do the bed making in an order and proper way and maintain a cheerful disposition so that the patient will feel comfortable and somehow will make him/her smile.

BATHING THE PATIENT

1. Why do you need to give a bath to the patient?

Because of course all of us people take a bath and it helps to clean the skin and keep it free from dirt, germs and sweat. It also helps the blood flow in the body. Baths give us chance to observe the patient and his/her skin. Baths are also very comfortable and relaxing to the patient

2. What are the materials needed for bed bath or sponge bath?

The materials to be prepared are as follows:

  • 2 big towels
  • 2 small towels
  • a basin with warm water
  • soap
  • rubber sheet, and;
  • light blanket

3. What’s the importance of using a urinal or bedpan?

Urinal and bedpan are important if the patient is expected to remain bedridden for a long period of time, so that the patient will not anymore get off the bed and enter the comfort room.

4. What do you mean by back rub?

The back rub is usually administered after the patient's bath . It should be offered to the patient because it promotes relaxation, relieves muscular tension, and helps to stimulate our body circulation.

5. How do you differentiate cold compress from hot compress?

Cold Compress is an absorbent cloth that is being dipped in to a cold water, wrung out and applied to a body part to relieve pain or reduce inflammation or used as a comfort measure.

Hot Compress is the application of heat to a small area with hot gauze or hot compress cloth. Hot compress increases circulation locally. It relieves pain and congestion.
